Rumble Seat (Speed Demons)
The Saturday Evening Post -- July 13, 1935

Donald Stoltz, President of the Norman Rockwell Museum: "On this cover we see a young couple in the rumble seat of a car that is barreling down the highway at an incredible speed to the delight of an exuberant young lady and her dog. Rockwell portrays the action in this picture so well that you might expect the car to zoom right off the page."

Note: known as a dickey seat in England, a rumble seat was recessed into the back of a coupe or roadster, covered by a hinged lid that opened out to form the back of the seat when in use.
