Fixing a Flat
The Saturday Evening Post -- August 3, 1946

This is a classic Rockwell Post cover. It looks like the girls have enough tools laid out to make major engine repairs. But they do look like they know what they're doing. And our friend in the rocking chair looks like he's really enjoying the break in his dull everyday routine.

Rockwell biographer Christopher Finch observes that "The contrast between the tidy world of the young women and the squalor of the hillbilly's lifestyle is shown in graphic detail." The models are the daughters of the famous Post illustrator Mead Schaeffer.
