The Cat's Whiskers
In 1935, the low, sleek SS Jaguar appeared on the scene. The name Jaguar was suggested by the company's advertising agency because it suggested feline grace and elegance but William Lyons was slow to embrace it initially. In 1936, Bill Rankin, the company’s public relations officer and a keen amateur sculptor, designed a mascot for the car’s radiator in the form of a leaping Jaguar. An unimpressed William Lyons said that it looked “like a cat shot off a fence.”

Artist Notes:
"After years of painting exacting automotive art, I painted a series of canvasses that included automotive elements but explored using other elements as well. A mere house cat (no claws please) drools with envy over the ultimate cat."
