Artist Notes:
"In the mid-‘60s, crowds often gathered near California beaches and highways as challenge races took place. Many of the crowd were simply onlookers, but there was some betting as well. A wise bet would consider many factors regarding the machines concerned, and not only horsepower.
This painting depicts the confluence of two iconic car cultures: one the classic hot rod element out of the Los Angeles area, and the other an emerging group of racers born out of the incoming muscle car era. Both still exist today, much to our good fortune."
