HENDRIK MUELLER
The Historic Car Collection
Hendrik Mueller is a German fine artist who is both an autodidact and an auto addict!
This passionate car lover is a naturally talented painter, who learned his craft from the ground up. His extraordinary skill with a paintbrush proves that a self-taught artist can be the equal of one who has studied fine art.
Born in the small village of Oberwiesenthal, he grew up in Bavaria and later had a studio in the Bavarian Alps. "From my childhood on I was fascinated by cars and drew my first designs for future cars,” says Hendrik, who went on to design the exotic Lotec C1000, exhibited at the 1991 Geneva Auto Show. Again, self-taught, with no formal training in car design.
His career path included graphic design, printing and photography before becoming a full time fine artist. His skill as a photographer is put to good use when composing historic cars, which are painted so realistically they are often mistaken for photographs.
Hendrik created more than 40 covers of BMW Magazine, a number of large illustrations for BMW exhibitions in Tokyo and Turin, and much of the design work at exhibitions and trade fairs at the Nuerburgring and in Detroit.
“Today I prefer painting historic cars,” he says, primarily using oils and acrylics on canvas, though occasionally watercolors. He has collectors in the USA, France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan, and Russia.
