"Conceived shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the cars appeared in a number of European Grand Prix. Despite giving Mercedes-Benz a run for their money, they failed to finish due to mechanical fraility, a consequence of lack of development. A number of cars were shipped out to the United States and created an unlikely niche for themselves in American motorsport history by securing several victories in the Indianapolis 500. The 8CTF in the painting is now in ownership in the United Kingdom and enjoys numerous outings at classic and historic race meetings and hill climbs, always attracting considerable interest such is its presence ...and let’s face it you don’t see too many Italian racing thoroughbreds in the national colors of France."
