King of the Road (Gilmore, 1940)
Los Angeles gas station visited by the artist. 1932 Ford roadster; 3 window and 5 window coupes; 1934 Ford roadster.
Artist Notes:
"There were 3,500 Gilmore gas stations when Mobil Oil bought them in the 1940s. Gilmore used the leaping lion for their symbol and the signs, globes and numerous promotional giveaways are the most sought after petroleum memorabilia. Gilmore sponsored racing and every major driver raced at Gilmore stadium in the '30s and '40s."
